Ragin' Cajun Wine & Beers
Ragin' Cajun Wine
The UL Lafayette Alumni Association introduced Ragin’ Cajun® wines in November 2012. The wines are produced by Weibel Family Vineyards and Winery of California, which has been making wine since 1938. The company has a 500-acre estate in northern California’s Mendocino County and contacted the Association in 2011 about an affinity program.
There are three varieties: red, white and brut. Bottle labels feature the Alumni Center on St. Mary Boulevard, which resembles a French chateau. The wines are sold at Joey’s, Rouses Supermarkets, and Super One through a distributor, RNDC of Louisiana. Each bottle sells for about $9. The Association receives a percentage of the sales.
Ragin' Cajuns Beer
With an already successful beverage and food line, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette partnered with Bayou Teche Brewing in 2015 to create the University's first official beer. The idea came when searching for a product for tailgating before Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns athletic events and soon Ragin' Cajuns Genuine Louisiana Ale was being poured at Cajun Field.
The Unviersity now has an ale and lager that are available on tap and in bottles throughout south Louisiana. Anyone wanting to try the beers can locate the nearest store through Schiling Distributing's smartphone app, "Liquid Finder," available at the App Store and Google Play.
Part of the proceeds of the new craft beer’s sales will be used to support the University’s academic, research and athletics programs.
