Finding other alumni who live in your area can sometimes be challenging. Thankfully, the Alumni Association offers a solution for this exact purpose: Ragin’ Cajun Clubs. These clubs are alumni organizations whose base membership derives from a specific region. This month, we’re highlighting the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club and hearing from its president, Candice Dazet.

Dazet ’11 graduated from UL Lafayette with a degree in mass communication and a concentration in broadcasting. She currently works as a regional admissions counselor in the New Orleans area for the UL Lafayette Office of Admissions and Recruitment. Here are a few things that Dazet wants you to know about the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club!

1.) What makes living in New Orleans so special?

Living in New Orleans is unlike anywhere else. “It’s just a different type of city,” said Dazet. New Orleans offers plenty of entertainment all year round. Whether you’re trying a new restaurant or heading over to one of the many festivals in town, this city is full of rich culture, good food, and great people. One of Dazet’s favorite places to go is Wrong Iron on the Greenway. This beer garden is the perfect place to gather with friends or watch a Ragin’ Cajuns football game. The New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club has hosted a few watch parties at this spot in the past, and they’re hoping to be able to safely host some more events here in the future.

2.) What kind of events does the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club host?

Aside from watch parties, the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club has hosted several other types of events over the years. “We love to host our crawfish boil every year,” said Dazet. This Ragin’ Cajun Club has also gotten creative and held other events for alumni, including trivia nights. In December 2019, they hosted a trivia night where guests were encouraged to bring books to donate to a local charity.

3.) What do you envision for the future of the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club?

As we begin this new year, Dazet is looking forward to when we’ll be able to host in-person events safely for the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club. Some of her ideas for future events include socially distanced fitness classes in the park or virtual gatherings. Dazet encourages anyone that lives in the area to get involved with the New Orleans Ragin’ Cajun Club. “Before the pandemic started, we were having new people attend all of our events,” said Dazet. Becoming involved with your local Ragin’ Cajun Club is a great way to network with others, meet new people, and share your love of UL Lafayette.
