Club Spotlight: Houston Ragin' Cajun Club
Wed, 11/20/2024 - 1:38pmEmma Taylor has been a Ragin’ Cajun through and through since 2019 when her undergraduate academic career began at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Even though she graduated in May 2024, there’s no sign of wavering enthusiasm from this UL Lafayette alumna.
Taylor was recently named the new president of the Houston Ragin’ Cajun Club, accepting the torch from outgoing president Adam Pisani. She’s currently the youngest Ragin’ Cajun Club president.
“I worked with the Alumni Association frequently during my time at the University,” Taylor said. “When I moved to Houston after graduating, I reached out and learned there was an opportunity to revitalize our local club.”
This level of involvement makes sense for her. During her time as a student, Taylor was deeply involved in campus life, serving in leadership roles with the Panhellenic Council, Student Government Association, and other organizations. Now, as an alumna, she’s bringing that same passion to her role with the Houston Ragin’ Cajun Club.
“UL Lafayette gave me so many opportunities and challenged me to grow into the person I am today. I cherish my memories and friendships made through the University,” Taylor said.
As she focuses on growing the Houston Ragin’ Cajun Club, Taylor and a team of dedicated volunteers have already hosted one event together: a watch party held on November 13, where she said they “had a phenomenal time…connecting with other alumni and cheering on the Ragin’ Cajuns.”
Several other events are already in the works. They include an opportunity for current UL Lafayette students from the Houston area to connect and network with alumni over winter break, a family-friendly skeet-shooting fundraiser in the spring and, of course, the beloved crawfish boil.
Pisani, who cherishes how volunteers have come together over the years with pride and camaraderie, is excited to see what’s in store for the Houston Ragin’ Cajun Club’s future.
“This club has a very large number of alumni, and so the growth potential is tremendous,” Pisani said. “We haven’t scratched the surface of what’s possible.”
To join, volunteer or learn more about the Houston Ragin’ Cajun Club, Taylor recommends making sure the Alumni Association has your correct and current contact information. “This way, you can receive emails and updates about our club,” she said.
