Fishing for Scholarships Rodeo
Join the South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair for its third annual Fishing for Scholarships fishing rodeo, benefitting the University of Louisiana at Lafayette! The Mid-Winter Fair LLC has been a proud supporter of the University for years, hosting its annual rodeo at Blackham Coliseum. The organization has expanded its impact on UL Lafayette students and taken the competition to the waters! Registration opens Spring 2024. See rules and regulations before registering below.
The community is also invited to join in on the fun! There will be free entertainment the Friday and Saturday of the tournament, along with a live auction and awards on Saturday night, and fun jumps for kids. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. No drink ice chests will be allowed and bringing your own lawn chair is recommended. See below for a full schedule of events!

South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair, LLC Fishing for Scholarships Rules and Regulations
- Fishing contest fraud is a crime in the state of Louisiana (RS 14:214).
- AIl U. S. Fish and Wildlife and La. Fish and Wildlife Regulations apply.
- The competition begins at daybreak a.m. Thursday weekend of tourney and ends when scales close at 7:00 PM on Saturday. All boats in line to weigh shall be eligible; the decision of Weigh Master is final.
- Fish may only be taken by rod and reel for the Fishing for Scholarships Rodeo. (except gar)
- All fish are subject to autopsy. No frozen or decomposed fish will be accepted. Any attempt to defraud or cheat in the rodeo will automatically disqualify the offender and all their fish and subject the person(s) to potential imprisonment and fines. (RS14:214).
- In the event of a categorical tie, the first fish entered wins. Decisions by Weigh Master are final.
- Fish shall be weighed in the presence of the Weigh Master. The contestant's rodeo ticket must be presented for the fish to be weighed. For purposes of determining total length, measurement of fish shall be from the outer extremity of the tip of the snout, with the fish's mouth closed, to the extreme tip of the tail fin when squeezed in a way to obtain the maximum overall length.
- All fish weighed will have a mark made on its tail and remain the property of the contestant.
- No sharks or billfish are allowed in the Fishing for Scholarships rodeo.
- The youth division is for children 13 years old and under. Out of fairness to all participants, children are expected to hook and reel fish independently. Youth can compete in both adult or youth categories with an adult-division ticket. No fee for youth category - 1st place awarded only.
- Upon entering the Fishing for Scholarships rodeo, you are at your own risk. Abbeville Harbor and Terminal, Fishing for Scholarships, or the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will not be held liable for any damages to yourself or your property.
- The South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair, LLC may use pictures taken at the rodeo to promote future Fishing for Scholarships events.
