Club Spotlight: Atlanta Ragin' Cajun Club

Late winter and early spring are well-known for kicking off Louisiana’s crawfish season. Across the southern part of the state, friends and family are ready to gather around a steaming pot of freshly boiled seafood once again.

Fortunately, for UL Lafayette alumni in Atlanta, their local Ragin’ Cajun Club is making plans to bring the cultural favorite to Georgia’s capital city. The Atlanta Ragin’ Cajun Club will host its 35^th Annual Crawfish Boil at 1 p.m., April 20 at the Atlanta Waterworks Lodge.

While the event brings Louisiana delicacies to Georgia, the event is about more than the food. Spanning from early afternoon into the evening, it is a rare opportunity to connect with friends who share a common background.  

Beverly Black, president of the Atlanta Ragin’ Cajun Club, knows about the importance of connecting with others. When a twist of fate led her to relocate to Atlanta for work, it was this very event that encouraged her to get involved with her alma mater and start volunteering.

“The past president of the Atlanta Ragin’ Cajun Club was a client of mine and invited me to the club's crawfish boil,” Black recalled. “I reconnected with friends that I had not seen in years and started volunteering.”

Now, Black plans the club’s annual event and enjoys encouraging alumni and friends to connect, have fun and make new memories together. In addition to the food, this year’s event promises Zydeco music, games and updates on UL Lafayette shared by invited guests from the University.
