Alumni Spotlight: Meagan Glover '17

If there's a story to share with the world, alumna Meagan Glover '17 is ready to report it. Glover has spent the past several years building her career in broadcast journalism. She currently works at KATC as a news and sports reporter/anchor. Her passion for sports reporting has led her to cover several major championship games — including when the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team won the Sun Belt Conference Championship in 2021.

 

Glover got her first taste of life behind the camera in her broadcast journalism classes at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She dove headfirst into her studies and started to get a feel for the profession when she took classes utilizing the on-campus television studio. "It was really eye-opening for me," Glover said. 

 

What she loved most about these classes was that everyone got to experience all aspects of working in a news studio. "You got to be an anchor, a director, and a producer. You got to do every part," Glover said. 

 

Besides her classroom experiences, she also got to practice her presentation skills as a student tour guide with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment. "Being a tour guide was one of the best parts of my student experience," Glover said. In this role, she presented in front of large groups of people and honed in on her public speaking skills. Every experience Glover had at UL Lafayette was a stepping stone to prepare her for a career in news media. And as soon as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma, it was time to put her skills into action.

 

Throughout her career, Glover has worked in every aspect of television news. She started as a production assistant, became a photojournalist, and finally worked her way up to her dream role as a sports reporter. But her journey wasn't easy. Glover constantly challenged herself to try new things and push her boundaries in journalism. Because she believed in herself, Glover not only grew as a professional but she grew into an outstanding sports reporter.

 

What she loves the most about her profession is that she gets to share stories of people in her community and beyond. "I like being the person that tells people's untold stories," Glover said. She also loves that she can be a role model for aspiring students who dream of being sports reporters someday too. "I like to be someone that pours into the next generation because so many people did that for me," Glover said. 

 

As she continues to cover news and sports in Acadiana, Glover hopes to report stories on a bigger stage one day. In the meantime, she'll keep challenging herself, chasing her dreams, and watching her own story unfold.
