Club Spotlight: Atlanta Ragin' Cajun Club

Crawfish season is in full swing, and alumni and friends are ready to celebrate at the Atlanta Ragin' Cajun Club's 34th Annual Crawfish Boil.

 

Scheduled for Saturday, April 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Atlanta Waterworks Lodge, the club's crawfish boil is about more than crawfish. It's a chance to hear the latest UL Lafayette news and catch up with old friends. 

 

Beverly Black, past president of the UL Lafayette Alumni Association and the Atlanta Ragin' Cajun Club, knows about catching up with old friends. When a twist of fate led her to relocate to Atlanta for work, this very event encouraged her to get involved with her alma mater and start volunteering. 

 

"The past president of the Atlanta Ragin' Cajun Club was a client of mine and invited me to the club's crawfish boil at the same location as this year's boil," she recalls. "I reconnected with friends I had not seen in years and started volunteering." 

 

Since then, Black has enjoyed the camaraderie of the close-knit group, sharing special moments over holiday gatherings and at special events, and honoring the volunteers who make it all possible. 

 

Fast forward to today, and things have come full circle for Black. As she plans this year's crawfish boil, she creates an opportunity just like the one she had for alumni to connect and make new memories together.

 

"The [crawfish boil] will be held at the Atlanta Waterworks Lodge, a private park in midtown Atlanta, and our food will be catered by Catering Cajun of Georgia," Black said. "They drive [to Louisiana to get the crawfish], bring the live crawfish to the event and cook them onsite. We dance to Zydeco music, play games and eat lots of crawfish. The group really enjoys the updates on our beloved alma mater shared by invited guests from the University," Black said.
