Association calls on alumni to help recruit potential students

The UL Lafayette Alumni Association is excited to partner with the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment for the third year of the Alumni Student Recruitment Program. This program aims to have UL Lafayette alumni write personalized letters to potential students who are considering attending the University. Alumni and students are matched based on similarities, such as their area of study or geographic region. Therefore, if a student is from the New Orleans area and wants to study nursing, the Association would match them with an alumnus who has one or both characteristics.

More than 1,500 letters have been sent out to potential students throughout the program's three-year life span. The program has also had around 150 volunteers participate. This year, the Alumni Association hopes to recruit even more volunteers to share their stories with future Ragin' Cajuns.

Alumna Kathleen Guedry has participated in the program since its inception. She knew this was something that she wanted to be a part of from the moment she heard about it. "I wanted other students to know that this university has a family feel whether you have a direct connection or not," said Guedry. Guedry's father attended the University. She met her husband there as a student, and both of her daughters are now attending UL Lafayette. She hopes that potential students will feel like the University is their home away from home through her writing.

Guedry encourages anyone interested in signing up for this program to participate. "What better way to get someone excited about [UL Lafayette] than to hear about it from someone firsthand," said Guedry. It also is an excellent way for alumni to reflect on their memories from their time on campus. Guedry personally loves to write about her experience living and working in the residence halls. She also was involved with intramural sports and loves sharing those memories too. "They were both great ways to get involved," said Guedry. Guedry is so proud to have attended UL Lafayette. She hopes that other potential students can realize what it means to be a Ragin' Cajun through her letters.

The Alumni Association is looking forward to another great year for the Alumni Student Recruitment Program, but we need your help.
