Association of Future Alumni (AFA)

Spring 2019 was one of AFA’s most successful semesters with the Philanthropy Cord. The cord is worn at commencement and earned by completing 20 hours of community service work throughout their time as a student (10 hours during their senior semesters) and making a minimum monetary donation of their class year to their designated university area of choice (Spring 2019 graduate’s minimum gift amount was $20.19).

With a total of 100 recipients, students contributed over 22,000 hours of volunteer service in the community and $2,500 in financial support to programs and initiatives across the university. A breakdown of the monetary donations shows that students largely contributed to the academic colleges and the University Annual Fund-Greatest Need. Overall the students’ passion for UL Lafayette shined through the Philanthropy Cord, and we are proud of their philanthropic interest in the university.

The Association of Future Alumni has also assisted with the Exceptional Service Award, which had 48 recipients. These recipients had a combined total of approximately 17,000 hours dedicated to community service. AFA is proud of its Spring 2019 cord and medal recipients and is excited to see the growth in both programs in the semesters to come.
