The UL Lafayette Alumni Association has several alumni chapters whose base of membership derives from a specific college, major, or interest group. This month, we’ll be highlighting our only Greek alumni chapter, the Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter.

The Sigma Nu fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute of Lexington, with over 160 active chapters and colonies currently on college campuses. The Eta Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was charted on UL Lafayette’s campus in 1963. Throughout its time at UL Lafayette, the chapter has initiated 1,216 initiates and currently has 49 active chapter members.

The Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter hosts several different events throughout the year, including reunions, tailgates, and fundraisers. This year, the chapter safely and successfully hosted its 26th Annual Sigma Nu Fishing Tournament in June of 2020. The tournament was held in Toledo Bend, and it had 23 Eta Nu alumni members and friends that participated.

Members of the Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter regularly collaborate with the current members of the fraternity. Many alumni serve in an advisory role for the present chapter, and they can help the current members plan events such as memorial celebrations and numerous cook-outs.

There have been many notable alumni that were members of the Eta Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu. A few include Dr. Michael Judice, past president of the Alumni Association; Jerry Luke LeBlanc, UL Lafayette Vice President for Administration and Finance; and Tommy Kreamer, vice chairman of the UL Lafayette Foundation Board.

The Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter continues to provide activities and events for its alumni members to stay connected. If you would like to get involved with the Sigma Nu Alumni Chapter, please email Dan Hare at danhare@louisiana.edu for more information.
